September Mourn

solutions.  Our founding fathers and mothers asked those questions of themselves and one another.  For years they engaged in the hard, harrowing, often disagreeable work of building a nation, and finally, with their lives on the line, their answer was “America.”

The shreds of our flag stir limply against the side of our house–a decade of rain and wind has done its work.  I know that we will always mourn the loss we suffered that beautiful and terrible September morning, but we need to remember it for more than just the pain and the fear it has caused.  It called that day  to each and every one of us; it called us to awaken, and it sounds that call still.  In spite of our pain and our fear, it is time for us to answer.

And time for me to get a new flag.
