pot after all we had been through. It was almost hard for me to believe. Luckily,

Roger was reinstated and learned a good lesson.

Xavier photographed Roger and me on the high 100-step stairway that led

up from the beach, and left me completely breathless on the way up, grateful

that they had put in two landings.

It wasn’t easy to talk climbing up the stairs.

Reaching the top I said, “Xavier, can you believe this house and how

wonderful it is? How do you like my son? Isn’t he something else?”

“You’ve got quite a family, Carol. I know Norman might have had something

to do with it, but you did a great job. They are outstanding, just like their

mom.”

Hugging him around, I said, “You always say the most wonderful things

to me. Xavier, you have a way of always making me feel good. You validate me

as a person and I don’t know if you know it, but I need that in my life. Maybe

everybody does, but to me it’s important and I can only say, ‘thank you.’”
