Another World Created

Later that night and for many nights to come, I would dream of that world. I was the Captain of a whaling ship. I braved the high seas; coming around the point; sailing past Indian braves in all their majesty. I would follow the Lighthouse beacon past treacherous seas; on my way to dig up Captain Kidd’s treasure. I could just catch the Star fish dancing although I always checked for lobsters first. Sailors on the ship, (my brothers) would do scrimshaw on whale bone and alert me if they sighted the great King of the Oceans. It seemed I sailed through the night in my dreams; never waking until morning and the sounds of family and home. Adventures in the East End began to gradually dim in my mind. Then summer would come again. My father would come home one day and make his long awaited announcement of a journey back to that other world.

I have been to many different worlds since then. Some were wonderful to experience. In others, I was never certain how I had let myself get trapped there. Still, like the beacon in the Light house, I safely sailed out of treacherous waters, guided by the certainty of a safe harbor of another world created. I still like to believe it was made for just me.
