Like A Good Catholic Should

At the end of mass I approached the Monsignor.  He shook my hand and greeted me in Italian with a “Ciao come Stai?”  (How are you?)

“Bene grazie, Fine, thank you,”  I responded. “And thank you again, Monsignor.”

He said, “I would love to meet this young man and his family.”

I told him that I would arrange that in the coming weeks.  I also went on to say, “Monsignor, your sermon, it made sense,”  I lied.

He said, pointing and looking directly into my eyes, “Not human sense, Maria.”  Again he emphasized the word human.

I responded, “Right.”

At that moment we were back in his office on opposing sides of Belief, but on the same side of doing something good for the benefit of someone else.  So what do a lapsed Catholic, a practicing Muslim and a powerful Monsignor have in common?  The fact that belief in any context and non-belief aside, we all made human sense.  That’s my kinda religion.
