A Piece Of The East

Written By: Maria  Ulrich

Years before we actually broke ground, an accumulation of what would actually go into the home was taking place. A painting from the south ofFrance, a vase fromGreece, some items fromChinaandEngland. One of the loveliest finds was an antique marble fountain from the outskirts ofRome, discovered on the occasion of a family wedding. And then our plans materialized. Years of dreaming, planning and pondering at last came to life. The ground was finally broken! The time had come to turn the dream, held tight for nearly 40 years, into reality.

Living here full time and experiencing the spring, the summer “season,” the fall and the winters, as well as sharing it with it’s other inhabitants (the deer, the hummingbirds, the osprey, the hawks and the foxes) make us feel like we are one with nature.

I want to thank posthumously, Mr. Cavo; For his courage of coming to a new country with few resources, for taking the time to express himself in a language that was not his, and for sharing with me the beauty of the land, and for giving me the courage to dream.
