What Are You Going To Do All Year

I will admit that there is not a lot I can say about mid-January through February, but how many places in the North can? Even in the city it was miserable, walking through slush trying to get to the subway and shielding your face as the wind whipped around the buildings. For that small amount of time, you just count on your friends to help you through with dinners or taking the Jitney into the city to see a show that was sold out all the year before.

When spring rolls around, there are trips to the nurseries to pick out what you are going to plant in your gardens for summer. You start opening doors in the house to get rid of the mid winter smell. All your drab winter clothes are put away and you start thinking about just getting out to all the wonderful outdoor places that theEast Endhas to offer. You start making plans about going hiking inShelterIsland, walking around the docks inSag Harbor, or riding your bike toPeconicBay.

The main thing that happens in late spring is you actually start looking forward to the craziness of summer. The traffic jams and rude weekenders haven’t come into your brain yet. What you are thinking about are the cookouts, gardening, food stands, swimming and all those other things that make summer out here so fun. You are also looking forward to all those friends coming out to visit who sit by your pool, talking about how nice it is and then asking you, “What are you going to do all year?”
